Hello Molly! A Memoir by Molly Shannon is a poignant view into the author’s life and significant experiences that have shaped her life.
This memoir wan’t what I expected, but I loved it! I think the reason I had different expectations, is that I didn’t know much about Molly Shannon. Sure, I’ve seen her hilarious acting in skits and movies over the years, but I didn’t know anything about her personal life or journey. For that reason, I’d expected her memoir would be a collection of funny anecdotes. As it turns out, this book is much more than a collection of funny anecdotes. It’s an honest and emotional view at a variety of experiences that have shaped her into the person she is today. Part laugh-out loud funny, part emotional, and part shocking … this memoir exceeded my expectations.
Listening to this audiobook was such a special experience. It felt like listening to Molly Shannon personally telling me stories about her life. In a candid and conversational manner she tells about her career, the making of her career, and most importantly her upbringing.
Some stories are funny, some are shocking, and others are simply heartbreaking. As tragic as some of her stories are, though, the overall tone of this book is jovial and uplifting. Molly Shannon’s positive attitude and infectious energy definitely come through in the delivery of her stories. Overall, this is an impactful and inspirational memoir that will stay with me for a long time.
I highly recommend this book. If you can, listen to the audiobook because it’s read by the author herself. What a treat to listen to Molly Shannon read her own book. No one could’ve narrated this poignant memoir the way she did.
