Funny Story by Emily Henry
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Funny Story by Emily Henry is a heartfelt and funny romance story, with a focus on new beginnings.

This book is part of My Spring 2024 Reading List.

My Overview

Funny story. Daphne and Peter were engaged and had a summer wedding planned. At his bachelor’s party, he realized he’s in love with Petra (his best friend) and they decide to start a relationship. At the time, Petra was in a relationship with Miles. Now, Daphne and Miles are roommates 🫢.

Daphne and Miles are roommates only because he needs someone to cover half the rent, and she needs a place to live. Their arrangement isn’t ideal, since the only thing they have in common is that their heartbreak after being blindsided by their partners. Daphne, a children’s librarian, is planning to move to another state, but only after her library’s fundraising event. So, over the next three months, she and Miles get to know each other, their lives, and family situations. The more time they spend together, the more they evolve and grow closer together.

What I loved about this story:

  • The banter between Daphne and Miles.
  • The well-rounded group of characters.
  • The multiple tropes within the storyline.
  • The depth of each character’s situation.

I basically loved everything about this story. Specifically, how the characters were portrayed and how relatable they were. By the end of the story, I truly felt like I knew and understood Daphne and Miles. Overall, this a beautiful story about new beginnings and believing in yourself.

My Recommendation

This is my fifth book by Emily Henry. When I read her previous book, Happy Place, I declared it my favorite of her books. I now have two favorites 🤩. The character development, humor, and heartfelt storyline is what I loved about this one. I highly recommend it.

The audiobook is read by Julia Whelan, one of my favorite audiobook narrators. Needless to say, I opted for the audiobook and loved it.
