Ciao For Now by Kate Bromley is a slow-burn enemies to lovers romance story. It’s a cute rom-com set in Rome, and is entertaining throughout.
This book is part of My Spring 2023 Reading List.
My Overview
When Violet and Matteo met at a cafe in Rome, what could’ve been their meet-cute moment turned out to be the opposite. Specifically, Violet bumped into Matteo and spilled her coffee all over his shirt and laptop. Unfortunately, that moment became their first impression of each other. To Violet, Matteo is a grumpy man she hopes never to see again. To Matteo, Violet is a clumsy woman he hopes never to see again. Soon enough, they discover they’re both be staying in the same house in Rome for a few weeks. Violet is visiting Rome as a participant in a fashion design competition. As it turns out, Matteo is the son of the owner of the house.
The more Violet and Matteo run into each other, the more they get to know each other. Before they know it, they develop feelings for each other. Keeping in mind that by the end of their stay in Rome each will have to part ways, their prospect for a relationship is unclear. Should they focus on their projects in Rome and say ciao for now, or give their relationship a chance?
Violet and Matteo are both witty and likable characters. Their opposite personalities definitely added entertainment to the storyline. I enjoyed the banter between the two. Additionally, the charming supporting characters added background and depth to the story. As a bonus, I truly enjoyed being transported to Italy via vivid descriptions of the food and various locations in Rome.
My Recommendation
I enjoyed this story and recommend it. The audiobook is nicely narrated by Natalie Naudus, so I recommend it as well. If you’re looking for a fun escapist story with a mix of romance, travel, and fashion design, this is definitely one to try. This is my third book by Kate Bromley, and I’m looking forward to reading more of her stories.
