The Dating Game by Sandy Barker is such a fun story! It’s witty, funny, and entertaining.
My Overview
Abby Jones lives in London, and writes recaps of reality television shows for an online tabloid. She never intended to be in a reality television show herself, but that’s exactly where she ends up. One minute she’s writing snarky recaps from her apartment, and the next she’s living in a mansion in Australia. She’s there as an undercover Doe for the reality television show The Stag. What follows is an entertaining story as Abby tries to survive life in the mansion as one of twelve Does, and avoid Daniel (the Stag).
As if being a part of a reality television show never wanted to be a part of isn’t bad enough, Abby has no interest in Daniel at all. She’s actually interested in Jack, who is the producer of the show! When he reciprocates his feelings for her … they both end up having to play their own secret dating game within the dating show.
Clearly, there’s a lot going on in this story, including the drama and awkward situations you’d expect from a reality television dating show. On the surface, this is a parody of reality television dating shows. Even more, it’s a heartwarming story with an uplifting message.
My Recommendation
I highly recommend this book. If you enjoy reality television (specifically dating shows), I think you’ll love this one. I enjoyed the witty characters, the banter between Abby and Jack, and the clever and constantly evolving storyline. This is a new-to-me author, and I’m now looking forward to reading more of her novels. I’m glad I came across this book, and gave this author a try.
