My Overview

When Jenna’s husband asked her for a divorce, she was completely blindsided. Weren’t they happy? Weren’t they planning to have kids? She thought so. Struggling to heal from her failed marriage, she moves in with her parents … for much longer than they would’ve liked. When her grandmother invites Jenna on a road trip to Massachusetts, she joins her. So, off they go to the seaside town in Massachusetts, for what ends up being the summer of a lifetime.

From the beginning, it’s apparent Jenna and her grandmother (Evelyn) have a special bond. Once they arrive in Massachusetts, Jenna expects her alone time at the seaside setting will help her heal from her broken marriage. Perhaps she’ll even be ready to let go and sign the divorce papers. Evelyn, who’s regularly up to no good, has different plans. While Evelyn’s planning to reconnect with her past, her plans for Jenna are to connect her with Joe, the grand-nephew of Evelyn’s long ago boyfriend. What follows is an entertaining story about love, family, and new beginnings. Through flashbacks to Evelyn’s youthful days, we learn about her upbringing and long ago first love.

What I enjoyed most:

  • Dual timelines alternating between past and present
  • Strong grandmother/granddaughter bond
  • Great banter throughout

Overall, this is a funny and heartwarming story from beginning to end.
