This is an interesting book review to write, because I wasn’t sure what to think of this story as I was listening to the audiobook 🤔. Now that I’ve finished it and thought about it for several days, I’m still not quite sure know what to make of it. Quirky and unsettling are the two words that come to mind when I think about this story 🫣.
Don’t be fooled by the cover, this is a dark and wacky story.
To say Allison is having some bad luck, is an understatement. Is it bad luck or poor choices? Either way, the situations she encounters are dreadful, and it appears there’s no end in sight. She’s travelled across the country, from the west coast to the east coast, but she can’t seem to escape her bad luck (or bad choices?). Not to worry, though. Allison will be the first to tell you she’s fine, she has her health … and even she finds the humor in the ridiculousness of that statement, considering her situation.
Some parts were funny, some horrific. For the most part, this story is like a tall tale that spun out of control. The only drawback for me, is that I couldn’t quite figure out Allison or what exactly was driving her behavior. Sometimes I felt bad for her, and others I wanted to yell at her to “Stop! Just stop already!”.
So, did I like this book?
Yes. By the time I accepted this story wasn’t quite what I’d expected, I just couldn’t put the book down. I just had to know where this story would go! Allison’s poor choices, risks, and downright bad luck make this a quirky and at times an even entertaining story. Overall, this is an odd story that made me shake my head a few times, but kept me engaged throughout.
