Accidentally Amy by Lynn Painter is a cute rom-com story of the grumpy vs. sunshine trope. It’s about a romance that started out with a stolen PSL.
Available on Kindle Unlimited.
My Overview
Isabella (Izzy) Shay’s first day of work at Ellis Enterprises, is coincidentally also the first day of the PSL at her local Starbucks. So, even though she’s running late that morning and there’s a long line at the coffee shop, she can’t stop herself from ordering a PSL. When the barista sets a venti pumpkin spice latte on the counter and calls out Amy’s name a few times, Izzy takes the drink for herself. What could go wrong, right? She already paid for the same type of drink, so Amy can take that PSL when it’s ready. In her rush out of the coffee shop, she rams into the guy behind her (another frequent customer), and splashes the PSL all over him. Surprisingly, he’s jovial and the disaster turns into their meet cute. One problem though … the name of the coffee cup she’s holding is Amy, so he assumes that’s her name. How will Izzy explain she’s accidentally Amy if she sees him again?
As it turns out, Izzy encounters the guy from Starbucks just minutes later in the elevator at Ellis Enterprises. He’s funny, quick-witted, and asks for her phone number 😃. A few minutes later Izzy is introduced to Blake Phillips, an AVP at Ellis Enterprises, who turns out to be none other than Starbucks guy 😯. Worse, Blake’s confused about Izzy’s name, so she’s forced to explain why she’s accidentally Amy. Suddenly Blake’s attitude towards her changes. As the story unfolds the grumpy vs. sunshine trope plays out.
I enjoyed the story overall, though not quite as much as I’d hoped. Unfortunately, I started out really enjoying the storyline and banter, but once the grumpy vs. sunshine trope took over the story fell flat. Without the fun and flirty banter, the story became much less entertaining; not what I want in a rom-com. Part of the problem, is that Izzy became pegged into the ditzy, chaotic, no-filter main character formula. I found that unfortunate. For the most part, Blake’s character balanced it out ok.
My Recommendation
Though I only liked the book ok, I’m glad I started off my fall reading with this one 🍂. I’d been waiting to read it during fall, after all. If you’re looking for a cute rom-com with a touch of fall, you might enjoy this one. It’s a light and quick story, so I say grab a PSL (or your favorite drink), and give it a try.

Have you read this book? Did you think Izzy ate way too much pizza?

I liked this one, but I didn’t love it like I have her others. It’s her weakest in my opinion, but I’m glad there were still things we could both enjoy about it.

Yes, glad we enjoyed the story overall. Looking forward to trying out more of her books, so good to know you’ve enjoyed others much more.

I’ve been trying some Lynn Painter books lately, so far with mixed results, but this does sound like a fun light read.
Lucy
I’m having mixed results too 😏.
Rachel @Waves of Fiction
I’ve read one by Painter and it was just okay. I’ll have to try her again at some point, because everyone seems to love her. Maybe not this one, though.
Lucy
I only started reading her books this year. This is my third and least favorite.

At least parts of this one were really cute and fun. And now I’m curious about the whole eating too much pizza thing. ;D

Thanks! The main character gets pizza delivered to her apartment multiple times throughout the week 🍕.
