This book is part of my 10 Christmas Books For This Holiday Season – 2023.

One Christmas Eve by Shari Low is a touching and heartwarming family drama, based on three interconnected stories.

My Overview

This is a multi-generational story that takes place on a Christmas Eve that changed three women’s lives. For Cathey (grandmother) the year was 1968. The year was 1993 for Helena (her daughter). For Eve (granddaughter) it’s 2023. Over the span of three decades, each of these women were changed by the choices they made on Christmas Eve. Those choices had multi-generational repercussions.

This is a touching and heartwarming story, told in a clever way. The characters are complex, and faced intricate situations at key points in their lives. As their stories unfurl, family secrets are uncovered and second chance opportunities arise. It’s easy to root for each of the women from beginning to end.

Overall, the multiple storylines converge easily for a well-rounded story. The storylines are based on romance, relationships, and unexpected DNA test results. They’re told in day in the life format from the POVs of Cathey, Helena, and Eve. The best part about this story, is that it’s told on the same day in three different timelines. Further, the ways in which the events of 1968, 1993, and 2023 are interconnected keep the story intriguing.

My Recommendation

Looking for a touching Christmas story that’s low on the holiday cheer and high on family drama? This is it. I enjoyed this touching and engaging story. The audiobook narration is great, so I highly recommend it.

This is my first book by this author, and I’m looking forward to reading more of her stories. If you’ve enjoyed books by this author, I’d love to know which one’s your favorite. Please let me know in the comments.
