The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk
Rating: āļøāļøāļø/5

The Christmas Wish turned out to be not quite what I’d expected, but I still enjoyed it. I was expecting a holiday romance story. Instead, this turned out to be more of a family drama and journey self-discovery for Gwen Baker. The focus on romance between Gwen and Dev was minimal. Regardless, I enjoyed Gwen’s journey of growth with respect to her life and family relationships.

What I liked about the story was the variety of interesting characters. Besides Gwen, my favorites were Manny (her cousin) and Dev (her long-time crush). There are plenty of awkward situations Gwen ends up in, some more believable than others, and without those two the story wouldn’t have been been as funny or interesting as it was.

This is yet another twist on the Christmas Groundhog Day theme, and I can’t say I liked it in this story as much as I have in others. Overall, the story had a lot of elements I like but for some reason it fell flat for me at times. This is my first book by this author, and I’m planning to try some of her other books. I’m hoping some of her other stories will work much better for me.

I’m glad I listened to the audiobook, because it would’ve been a slog for me to read the story. Even with the audiobook, I didn’t necessarily look forward to getting back to the story at times. For me, this was a middle-of-the-road type of read. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. Overall, I’m glad I got a chance to “read” the story, because I’d been looking forward to it since prior to its release date. The audiobook narration is fantastic, so if you’re considering it, I do recommend it.
