What an excellent book! This is a touching story about two young girls, Annemarie and Ellen, who are forced to leave their homes behind during World War II. The story begins in 1943, during the Nazi occupation of Copenhagen, and takes place over the span of three years.
From the historical facts to the experiences of families being separated as they were forced to escape, there is much to learn and discuss while reading this book. It’s historical fiction written in a relatable way for middle graders of today. This is a great way to learn about the Holocaust, while also learning about the brave people who risked so much to help each other.
This is an educational and engaging story readers of all ages will appreciate. I’ve read this book and also listened to the audiobook. I highly recommend either.
