Finlay Donovan (Book 2)
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano is as mysterious and entertaining as I’d expected. This is Book 2 of the Finlay Donovan series, and it picks up a few weeks from the end of Book 1. If you can’t recall the ending of Book 1, or much of that story, rest assured you won’t feel lost while reading Book 2. Throughout the story, there are plenty of references to details and background from Book 1.

My Overview

Finlay Donovan and her live-in nanny/accountant, Vero, are back at it again with the antics that continually get them into mysterious and dangerous situations. The main characters from Book 1 are still a part of this story. In addition to them, are some new and dangerous characters Finlay and Vero encounter along the way.

At the end of Book 1, Finlay found out someone wanted her ex-husband (Steven) dead. The mystery of who that person is, is at the center of this story. Finlay and Vero are determined to identify and stop whoever’s trying to kill Steven. The more they get involved, the more trouble they end up in. Once again, though, they manage to stay ahead of the game through their smarts and at times sheer luck. Of course, Finlay manages to do it all, while working on her new novel, and being a mom to her toddler kids. Good thing she can always count on Vero’s help!

My Recommendation

I read the first book in this series, Finlay Donavan Is Killing It, and enjoyed it so I was looking forward to this one. Overall, Book 2 is as mysterious and entertaining as the first one. This story felt too similar to that of Book 1 though, so it’ll take me a long time before I’ll want to follow up with the series. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration, so I recommend it. This book reads fine as a standalone, so if you haven’t read Book 1 it’s ok to start with Book 2. There’s plenty of backstory provided throughout, to keep readers new to this series from feeling lost.

If you enjoyed the TV series Dead To Me, you’ll enjoy this book series. I enjoyed that show, and was definitely reminded of it while listening to this audiobook.
